The movie will start its production in April but Hardy is unavailable due to overlap schedules of his two other films "The Revenant" and "Mad Max: Fury Road."Director David Ayer reportedly enlists Gyllenhaal as replacement but the actor has not officially accepted the role as of this time.

Gyllenhaal has worked with Ayer previously on "End of Watch."  If the actor joins "Suicide Squad," he will be the leader Rick Flagg of a group of super villains. Other lead actors are Will Smith as Deadshot and Jared Leto as The Joker.

Cara Delevigne, Jai Courtney and Margo Robbie will portray the Enchantress, Boomerang and Harley Quinn respectively. They form a group of super villains who will operate on missions to receive pardon from the government. The group will be controlled by a top ranked US official named Amanda Waller who does not have super powers but is highly influential.

The role of Waller is reportedly reserved to "How to get Away with Murder" actress Viola Davis.

With a promising cast, the "Suicide Squad" has received comparisons with Marvel's "The Avengers" but the former is reportedly much different than the Marvel film.  The film will focus on the perspective of the villains and will showcase darker plots and scenes that are more appropriate for matured moviegoers, according to Screen Rant.

"Suicide Squad" will hit theatres on Aug.5, 2016.
