Tech giant Microsoft made some last minute acquisition just days before Christmas by acquiring data management and business analytics company Metanautix. The acquisition will help Microsoft in dealing with large data that goes through its computer systems.

Metanautix is a startup company that helps large companies and enterprises filter through their in-house data. The firm was founded in 2012 by Toli Lerios and Theo Vassilakis, who were former employees of Facebook and Google respectively.

After two arduous years of development, Metanautix officially launched in September 2014 shortly after the firm successfully raised $7 million to cover operating costs. Metanautix Quest, the company's proprietary technology, helps its clients pool all of its data across several departments into a single fully filtered system. The technology created by Metanautix covers databases as well as business systems like Salesforce.

According to Venture Beat, the terms of the acquisition was not disclosed. Microsoft did not provide any hints as to how Metanautix's technology will work or apply in the company's systems. However, the Redmond-based company did say that it Metanautix's technology will be applied within Cortana Analytics Suite and the company's SQL Server.

Vassilakis confirmed future plans of the two companies by posting on its official blog, "Metanautix started out with the vision to integrate the data supply chain by building the Quest data compute engine that enables scalable SQL access to any data. Three years in, we can take this work to the next level by joining forces with Microsoft."

Vassilakis also confirmed Microsoft's previous hints regarding integration with SQL Server and Azure.
