The game features building a musical career, developing players pop persona, Katy vision, developing and recording own music and video and playing with friends. So far, the app has more than 50,000 downloads and was given a rating of 4.2 stars out of 5 stars.

Those who downloaded the app are not necessarily gamers, says Niccolo de Masi, CEO of Glu Mobile which developed the app. He explains, "They'll probably say I've never played a game before but for Katy I will and that's pretty interesting from s demographic perspective."

De Masi points out that the big number of Katy's fans in social media and the core aspiration of her fan base to the game's mechanics were some of Glu Mobile's consideration in developing the app.

Glu Mobile is also the developer of reality star Kim Kardashian's apps. The 35-year-old also released on Monday her new app Kimoji which uses her body parts and other fashion items, reports Vogue. The first batch has more than 250 icons, including shredded J brands, Louis Vuitton luggage, waist trainers and her famous butt that graced the November 2014 issue of Paper Magazine.

Like the Paper Magazine issue which broke the internet, Kimoji also caused the Apple app store to crash with 9,000 people downloading it per second at one point.
