Japanese video game developer Bandai Namco recently announced that it is working on a new title for the "Katamari Damacy" series. The new game is headed for the iOS and Android platforms and will be called "Tap My Katamari."

"Tap My Katamari" was unceremoniously leaked in November following Bandai Namco's trademark filing. However, the company officially confirmed that the game is in development at Jump Festa exposition in Japan. Bandai Namco added that the game will be "coming soon" and confirmed that it will be released for the mobile platform, according to IGN.

"Tap My Katamari" is just one of the handful of games that Bandai Namco plans to release to North America in the coming years. The list includes titles like "God Eater Resurrection," "Mobile Gundam Extreme VS-Force," and "Tales of Berseria."

Bandai Namco released an official trailer for "Tap My Katamari." Based on the trailer, it seems that the studio dropped the original 3D environment of the game and replace it with a 2D side-scrolling platform where players need to tap their mobile device repeatedly in order to progress.

The first "Katamari Damacy" game was released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2 platform. The game employs a simple yet quirky gameplay and has become sort of a cult classic in the video game community.

The last "Katamari Damacy" game was released in 2012 for the PlayStation Vita handheld console and was called "Touch My Katamari." The game's original designer and creator Keita Takahashi left the project after the release of "We Love Katamari." According to Polygon, Takahashi is also behind games like "Noby Noby Boy" and the upcoming title "Wattam."
