Bryan Singer's Marvel Comics film "X-Men: Apocalypse" is coming and the film is set to lay down the foundation to a Dark Phoenix story arc.
Sophie Turner plays young Jean Grey in Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" and in the latest film trailer, it was actually Grey who was seen walking through the Cerebro, the device that Professor X uses to contact mutants in his area. This was confirmed by director Singer in his interview with Empire.
In the same interview, Singer also said that Grey's hair made her a little strange looking, but he did not want to explain why she was doing what she was doing. He added that Grey had a special connection with Xavier and she had a special connection with the sychic world and she had enormous untapped power that was growing.
Singer's revelation led fans to speculate that the global destruction, the sun, and the Egyptian hieroglyphics indicate Grey's vision, rather than a dream. In addiion, many also believe that Professor X was not calming her down, as she foresees tha coming of Apocalypse, according to Cinema Blend.
In the comics, the "Dark Phoenix Saga" centers on Grey being possessed by a cosmic entity, called the "Phoenix." It triggers her potential power and turns her into a villain that the X-Men must deal with. As one of the most iconic "X-Men" story arcs, the "Dark Phoenix Saga" was attempted to be adapated by Fox in "X-Men: The Last Stand;" however, it was not well-received by the audience.
Along with young Jean Grey, fans are also set to see the Professor X and the other mutants in Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse," which centers on the rise of En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse.
The film storyline sees Apocalyse recruit his powerful Horsemen to help him destroy humanity. To prevent their archenemy from fulfilling his plan of massive destruction, Professor X must lead a team of young mutants.
Aside from Turner, "X-Men: Apocalypse" also stars James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Lana Condor, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Rose Byrne, Josh Helman, and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, among others.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016.
