"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," otherwise known as "Rogue One," is scheduled to be released on Dec.16, 2016.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," otherwise known as "Rogue One," is scheduled to be released on Dec.16, 2016. The upcoming movie would be the first "Star Wars" Anthology film that is set shortly before the events of the first "Star Wars" film.

Several actors have confirmed their participation in the upcoming "Star Wars Rogue One." The list includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen. Aside from the casting, not a lot of information about the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" December release has been unveiled. Because of the lack of information, several theories about the plot can already be found online. One such plot theory claims that a familiar Star Wars character would have a bigger role in the soon to be released "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

Earlier this year, Cinema Blend reported that iconic Star Wars character Boba Fett would have a major presence in "Rogue One." While the cast and crew of the film has yet to confirm this particular rumor, Cinema Blend claims that the recent toy fair held in Nuremberg, Germany provided evidence to confirm the Boba Fett speculation.

During the fair, Lego unveiled upcoming "Rogue One" play sets. In one of the promotional images, Boba Fett's ship Slave 1 was prominently seen.

More recently, there have been reports that "Star Wars" icon Darth Vader would also have a big role in the upcoming spin-off. According to a separate Cinema Blend article, Vader would be the front and the center of "Rogue One," especially considering how the movie's storyline would take place at the height of the Empire's power. Despite the speculation, there has been no news on whether or not James Earl Jones would be reprising his role as the voice of the Star Wars villain.

Following last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Rogue One" would be the second film in the most recent reboot of the popular franchise. The film would be directed by Gareth Edwards, the director of 2014's "Godzilla." The screenplay, on the other hand, would be written by Gary Whitta, famous for writing "The Book of Eli" and "After Earth," and Chris Weitz, director of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."
