Ronda Rousey took her second consecutive loss in painful fashion against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and now questions arise on her future inside the Octagon. UFC president Dana White was clueless as well but dished that “Rowdy” was in better spirits compared to her loss at UFC 193.
Rousey returned after more than a year of absence though different. Her return match was highlighted by a media blackout which most believed was another one of her mental attacks. Nunes believed such was the case but promised this would not become a distraction.
Looking at her performance at UFC 207, Nunes did as promised, finishing off the former champion in just 48 seconds in the first round. Rousey went into the cage with questioned confidence, unable to answer the tactical striking that the Brazilian unleashed.
Dana White did go backstage to check on Rousey after the match and said that Rousey was in better spirits than her loss to Holly Holm. He added that it was simply not Rousey’s night and stressed who she built the women’s division, MMA Junkie reported.
From here, most are wondering what Rousey’s next move will be. She plans to take some time off and reflect on her future before deciding on what to do next before thanking everyone for believing and understanding her, ESPN reported.
That said, it may take Rousey some time before she can actually decide on her next move. There are talks of her possibly focusing on Hollywood or even the WWE. Her decision is not expected to be out in the open soon as she tries to regroup after another stinging loss.
As far as another UFC stint is concerned, it will be interesting if the Nunes fight will indeed cap her career inside the cage. Things just haven’t been the same for Rousey since that shock loss to Holly Holm last year.
2016 uncovered the fragile mental state of Rousey, something that included suicidal intent. Her acting career likewise took a hit with most planned films getting temporarily shelved.
With a rough 2016, Rousey is hoping for a better outlook in 2017. Her time off will hopefully help as she tries to get her career back on track.
