Former UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey has been around to know how to create hype, particularly the millions. She is aware of Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s antics, criticizing both for doing so.
McGregor and Mayweather have been jawing as of late, leading many to speculate a dream match in the offing. Mayweather is still officially retired and returning to the ring may be limited to only professional boxing.
“The Notorious” on the other hand has been trying to build on his stock as well, going as far as securing a boxing license from the California State Athletic Commission, ESPN reported. Most believe that McGregor’s move is more of a publicity stunt to bemuse fans of a dream fight with Mayweather.
Rousey is aware of what Mayweather and McGregor are doing, calling it a cheap way of drawing attention and money. In fact, she believes that is the wrong way with people buying it.
"The worship of money is our society is so deep. But just because that's the easiest way to keep people's attention or entertain them doesn't mean that's the right way."
The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion, however, has kind words for McGregor for the circus act. It gives her the chance to rest with the attention diverted from her end. Being exposed to money and publicity, all she cares about is winning and nothing else.
Rousey is schedule to official return to the Octagon on Dec. 30 as she challenges Amanda Nunes for the same title she lost to Holly Holm last year at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA Today reported. It will be “Rowdy’s” first fight in over a year.
Rousey mentioned that her upcoming fight with Nunes is one of her last cards for the UFC. Retirement looms and much of that may take shape after the UFC 207 main event.
Nunes won the title from Miesha Tate at UFC 200 back in July, continuing the frequent title-changes since Rousey lost it to Holm. Will the trend continue at UFC 207 later this month?
