Nate Diaz is being linked to a third fight with Conor McGregor though it all depends on how much money is on the table. If he is unable to get a lucrative financial haul, the mixed martial artist is planning to shift to boxing where he believes he can earn more.
To back up his plan, Diaz is thinking about securing a boxing license in both Nevada and California, MMA Weekly reported. The move could be similar to what UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor previously did, something seen as a move to hype up a possible showdown with retired and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
With most seeing it as nothing more than another publicity stunt, Diaz explains that such is not the case. In fact, he adds that he doesn’t care much for mixed martial arts anymore and plans to pursue this dream for the love of boxing and better financial rewards.
While that remains to be settled, Diaz’s next fight remains sketchy. He is being tied up to a possible third fight with Conor McGregor though other reports claim he will be facing Khabib Nurmagomedov next, MMA Fighting reported.
The UFC has not made anything official for Diaz but the 31-year-old MMA fighter did have a message for top management.
"I'm only fighting at lightweight for a big fight or 20 million just to take the call," Diaz said via text message. "Until then, I'm just living my life."
Diaz was last seen at UFC 202 in that celebrated rematch with “The Notorious”. He lost that one via decision and many are expecting a rubber match to be announced soon. Back in March, Diaz won via submission over McGregor in the second round.
A third meeting between the two would have taken place at UFC 205. Instead, McGregor faced Eddie Alvarez and ultimately won the UFC lightweight title. Now, only a huge payday may get Diaz back in the ring though Dana White and company have yet to give in to his demands.
