The highly anticipated “Gravity Falls” series finale, titled “Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back the Falls” premieres Monday, February 15 on Disney XD. Multiple reports have already suggested that the ending will be very dark, with one of the Pine family members’ dying as a form of an ultimate sacrifice.

When series creator Alex Hirsch announced the end of "Gravity Falls," via his Tumblr page, he explained that the finale will not answer every conceivable question ever thought of the series. Fans of the series spent several hours on different social media sites like Tumblr and Reddit trying to decipher hidden clues and meanings in each episode.

By leaving a few things to the audience imagination, Hirsch pointed out that, this way, there will be room for potential "Gravity Falls" project in the future.

Hirsch, however, quickly added that he will not be involved in such future projects, saying that he was able to tell the story of the Pines family the best way he can. He also assured fans that they will give them a satisfying ending.

Hirsch announced that he is making a new animated series for FOX. Although not much is known about its plot, news of him back on the drawing board is enough for any "Gravity Falls" fan to get excited.

Charles Scoop of Indiewire, however, remains skeptical of the success of Hirsch's new project. In spite of the popularity of "Gravity Falls," the author insisted that it remains a niche show. He pointed out that Hirsch's new series will have to attract a significant number of viewers to survive cancellation.

Citing "The Simpsons" as an example, explained that its worst episode raked in over 4 million viewers and regularly attracts 6-7 million viewers, which is higher compared to even "Gravity Falls'" most watched episode.

Given that "Gravity Falls" aired on cable television, Disney XD may not be a strict when it comes to ratings as compared to FOX, a network that relies on advertising revenue.

"FOX has proven that they are not nearly as tolerant of under-performing shows, and balancing that with creativity could be tough," he explained.

We could only hope that Hirch's new series will be as good if not better than "Gravity Falls." Watch the promo for "Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back the Falls” below:
