Netflix' award winning series - "Orange is the New Black" - has been renewed for three more seasons, which was announced by Netflix in Feb. 5.
"Orange is the New Black" revolves around lives of women prisoners incarcerated at a fictional prison- Litchfield Penitentiary. "Orange" has generated rave reviews and is rated 8.3 by IMDb and 95 percent by Rotten Tomatoes.
News of three more seasons came when "Orange is the New Black" won two awards during the Screen Actors Guild Awards, wherein "Orange is the New Black" won the Best Ensemble Prize in Comedy Genre for second time in a row, Guardian reported. Furthermore, actress Uzo Aduba was adjudged as Best Female Actor for Comedy category. Uzo Aduba plays "Crazy Eyes" Suzanne Warren in "Orange is the New Black" and has previously grabbed two Emmys for her role.
Developed by Jenji Kohan and produced by Lionsgate Television, "Orange is the New Black" has crossed three seasons so far, and Kohan received accolades for show's diverse cast and storytelling that dwells on each of many women characters.
Fourth season of "Orange is the New Black" is scheduled to premiere on June 17, and a teaser for season 4 was already released in Jan. 17 that hints an entry of a new character. It is said that Blair Brown will be joining "Orange is the New Black" as a regular character - Judy King - in new season, Variety reported.
Kohan was excited over the renewal of her show and speaks of doing interesting things in forthcoming seasons. "Orange is the New Black" season 4 shall have themes ranging from political agendas, corporatization of prisons, racism and hate. Furthermore, Kohan promised that "Orange is the New Black" season 4 will have new back stories of its earlier characters.
Netflix does not disclose viewership figures for its shows publicly; however, an exception seems to have been made for "Orange is the New Black," as Netflix' chief content officer Ted Sarandos announced to reporters that the TV series is their platform's "most watched show."
On other news, "OITNB" actress Taryn Manning, who plays Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Dogett in the series, is suing New York City Police Department for $10 million for wrongfully arresting her and detaining her in a holding cell. It is said that Manning was arrested after she made contact with her former friend Jeanine Heller, who had previously arrested for stalking and harassing Manning.
