Fans of GoPro action cameras will have to strengthen their patience, as the much anticipated GoPro Hero 5 is slated to be released later this year, while its companion drone Karma will be having its release first half of 2016.
It was earlier reported that GoPro Hero 5 release was delayed to October as GoPro is prepping up with the release of their first ever drone. It is said that the highly anticipated fifth gen action camera will be unveiled alongside the new Karma drone and both devices will be offered in bundle; however, recent report suggests that the drone will be unveiled first and GoPro Hero 5 release will follow at a later date.
It is said that GoPro needs ample time to plan Hero 5's release, as the company does not want the camera to have the same fate as its predecessors.
With GoPro's fourth quarter earning call that was held recently, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman shared its plans to Hero 5, wherein he stated that the fifth gen GoPro Hero device will be a "convenient and connected device."
"Later this year, we will introduce the most connected and convenient GoPro we have ever made, Hero 5," Woodman stated.
Although the American manufacturer is mum about Hero 5's specs, it was previously claimed that GoPro Hero 5 will be equipped with Ambrella H1 System on Chip, which will enable users to record videos in 4K resolution at 60 FPS. Although its predecessor - Hero 4 - has the same resolution, the new Hero 5 will have higher speed and will have an improved 2.7k performance plus higher FPS at 1080p captured videos. Rumor has it that the upcoming action camera can take videos at a depth of 60 meters, which is definitely higher capacity compared to Hero 4's 20-meter capacity.
Meanwhile, the first ever Karma drone of GoPro, which will likely go head-to-head battle with DJI's consumer drones, is expected to be compatible with all new and previous GoPro devices. The announcement was made by GoPro founder Woodman earlier this year, wherein he commented at CES that "we make everything backwards compatible, our goal is that your older GoPro will work with anything new we make, and vice versa."
The American action camera manufacturer already released preview videos of their Karma Drone; however, the video only shows the drone in action but it does not show how the drone is controlled or the drone's actual look.
