KBS just played an April Fool’s Day prank on Friday on fans of “Descendants of the Sun.”
The South Korean broadcaster posted on its Facebook fan page a promo that promised to send 1,004 lucky fans to Uruk in an all-expense two-week trip. The promo is supposed to celebrate the airing of the 16-episode Korean drama in 100 countries.
However, a closer examination of the details would be a giveaway that fans should not take the offer seriously.
For one, Uruk is just a fictional war-torn country where “Descendants of the Sun” is set. Another clue that the promo is a big joke is that the mode of transportation is via an Air Force jet from Incheon to Uruk where the fans would make a skydive landing, reported AllKpop.
The fans are supposed to stay in Uruk for 14 days and 13 nights at the army camp. Two nights would be spend on board a camel which comes with a special gold card to be handed by an Arabic diplomatic official. Fans who would get sick would be provided free medical care at the Hye Sung hospital.
As tourists in Uruk, fans would have the opportunity to visit the different locations where the drama was shot. Fans, who would just need to leave a comment on the KBS Facebook page to qualify for the fan event, were advised to make way for the Alpha Team if they spot the soldiers during their patrol.
If it is Captain Yoo Si Jin, played by Song Joong-ki, they would see, the handsome actor would even remove any landmines in the area for the fans’ safety. The last clue that it is a prank is the date for the trip is “As soon as ‘Uruk’ becomes registered with the United Nations.”
Many fans such as Seoy Yeol Jun, Shiza Saleem and Toia Dyana immediately saw the joke and commented that it is indeed an April Fool's Day prank. However, some gamely traded jokes, such as Jean Bautista who wrote, “I want to be part of this!! Please pick me it would be a great graduation gift to meeee.”
Lallis Villalobos also said, “I want to be part in this project pick me please.” Almira Velez appears confused as she wrote, “hope this is true.. I’d love to go,” but Shiza Saleem pointed out, “It’s too good to be real.”
