"Final Fantasy XV's" imminent Sep. 30 release is the most awaited "Final Fantasy" event at the moment, but fans are still looking forward to yet another entry in the franchise, dubbed "Final Fantasy 7 Remake." Even so, they are not pleased with Square Enix's costly episodic release plan.
According to the latest reports, fans have slammed the Japanese developer for announcing that the episodic structure of "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be comprised of many, full-sized games as a replacement for a series of smaller episodes. The debate arose when a message published on Game Informer surfaced, reaching the fans.
In the message, Producer Yoshinori Kitase disclosed that every episode of "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" would be treated as a full-scale game. This would be similar to how Square Enix initially released the three titles of "Final Fantasy XIII," producing a remade version of the 1997 game that could cost up to $180.
This is a huge price considering that the game is a remake and this is why a group of "Final Fantasy 7" enthusiasts have taken a step to speak against the suggested pricing plans. A comment made on IGN by one such enthusiast ZankokuRyu referred to the pricing structure as a "filthy cash grab," owing to its idea of "charging $60 for each part of the same game."
On Gamespot, another fan Frogster8 complained of the same saying that Square Enix should keep their "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" if this is how they are planning to do it. Likewise, one more angered fan described the remake as the "gaming blunder of the century."
Judging from the commentaries, the pricing structure of the remake has angered quite a number of fans. In fact, many of them have said that they are "likely to pass" if the developer proceeds with the multi-part agenda.
Kitase announced that some of "Final Fantasy 7 Remake's" elements might change. "We don't think anything is untouchable." He told Game Informer. Apparently, players might have to deal with the split release plan since the released product may possibly feature a different narrative.
