Mnet released a new video showing 'Produce 101' I.O.I girl group member Yu Yunjung is an indispensible member of the group with her amazing voice.
The video is a compilation of Yunjung's performances with explosive high notes. The Starship trainee gained popularity since she sang Girl's Generation's "In to the New World," where she showed her vocal prowess.
The video also highlighted Yunjung's bright and enthusiastic personality, which some people may have taken the wrong way.
She then became the main vocal in every mission and her ranks went up. In the concept evaluation, Yunjung joined the "At The Same Place" team for a girlish, innocent concept. In the final voting selection, Yunjung beat Star Empire trainee Han Hyeri and became the group's main vocal.
However, even before the girl group's official debut, Yunjung suffered a harsh backlash from netizens saying that she is stealing the spotlight from other members of the group. I.O.I has 11 members and it is understandable that some girls will stand out than the rest. However, Yu Yunjung may have picked the wrong way to be more famous when she reportedly tried to steal the spotlight in the previous "Crush" MV.
In the past episode of "Produce 101," similar problem was raised when Yunjung teamed up with Music K trainee and Kim Soo Hyun half sister Kim Juna. In the position evaluation, the two powerful singers in the show ended up on the same team. The team had problems picking the main vocal as members want Kim Juna to be the main vocalist, but Yu Yunjung felt like she should be chosen. Due to the incident, Yunjung said that she lost confidence on her skills as a singer.
Due to these negative comments, I.O.I released a new version of its "Crush" MV that has less exposure of Yunjung.
