"How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 will see the return of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis).
In the fall finale episode for season 2, Annalise decided to go back to her mom's house so she could have some time away from all of the problems she's dealt with for the past couple of years.
However, executive producer Pete Nowalk clarified that Annalise just needed a short time off, but she will definitely come back at the start of season 3, and she will be stronger than ever.
In an interview with TV Line, Nowalk said that he and the writers still don't have any idea how season 3 would turn out to be. Some of the options include focusing on week-to-week cases or having a major case that will be the center of an entire season.
"I like switching it up, honestly. I don't want the show to become stale. In the back half of season 2, we had so much emphasis on Rose's case that there wasn't room for cases of the week. We'll probably try to do a balance," he said.
Meanwhile, Nowalk said that Annalise will still work as a professor, and she will still closely team up with the members of the Keating Five. This includes Wes (Alfred Enoch), Laurel (Karla Souza), Michaela (Aja Naomi King), Asher (Matt McGorry) and Connor (Jack Falahee).
"I love watching Annalise do her job in any way. She loves her job, and I don't think she's the same person if she's not doing it. So, whether that's case of the week or case of the season, seeing her at work is what I care about," he said.
In other news, other details about "How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 are still being kept under wraps.
What is only known is that Wes will most likely be involved in investigating his dad Wallace Mahoney's (Adam Arkin) death. After all, the latter was shot in front of Wes.
While speaking with Variety, Nowalk also said that Wallace's murderer will either be named at the start or the end of the upcoming installment.
"How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 24.
