There are various pointers that the second installment in "The Last of Us" franchise is indeed in development. The voice behind Nathan Drake of the "Uncharted" series, Nolan North, mentioned and confirmed, although in passing, that the development team is working on the game, according to Gamerant. Furthermore, a former lead character artist of the game developer company, Michael Knowland, clearly said on his LinkedIn resume, "The Last of Us 2 - 1 month prototyping head sculpts."
Furthermore, the game was mentioned on a live stream for "Unchartered: The Nathan Drake Collection." In fact, there was a rumor in February that the installment will be called "Days Gone."
Another report by Games Radar revealed that Neil Druckmann, one of the studio's creative directors, said that before he and his partner, Bruce Straley, were brought in to work on "Uncharted 4," they were discussing models for diverse ideas in "The Last of Us" franchise. Speaking to the publication, Druckmann added, "Our next focus is the single player ['Uncharted 4'] DLC and then, once we have enough resources, resurrect all those prototypes; see where we're at, see where the teams at, what they're excited for and go from there."
A possible plot for the much-awaited game in "The Last of Us" series will come from Marlene's perspective - the leader of the Fireflies group in the first installment. The storyline will then focus on how she gained her position.
"The Last of Us" first released in June 2013, and it has ever since received critical commendation from the gaming community. The game concerns a journey of Joel and Ellie in a zombie-infested world. Joel has an obligation to bring the zombie-immune Ellie to a different city and they have to face zombies, cannibals, and other creatures on their way before achieving their goal.
