An argument between a young couple in a Dongguan Park in Guangdong Province on Monday almost killed an innocent 12-year-old girl.
Guangzhou Daily reported that the after-school hours argument resulted in the boy and girl going their separate ways, but as they walked away, the boy threw a 15-centimeter-long knife.
However, it did not hit the girl with whom he argued with, but the 12-year-old girl. The knife was lodged about 3 centimeters into her skull. Fortunately, it did not cause any puncture on any of the victim’s major veins or arteries.
But if it went deeper, it would have killed the innocent bystander. A surgery removed the knife. The girl is recovering and would be released from the hospital next week.
The surgery cost 8,000 yuan which was shouldered by the father of the boy who threw the knife carelessly. More compensation for the victim is being discussed.
Because the offender is below 14 years old, he could not be charged criminally, according to Chinese laws. But the police let him go with a warning.
In 2014, a Chinese man named Xiao also was the victim of a wayward knife while walking along a street in Guangyuan. Several floors up, a resident was tending his ledge garden and left a knife on the ledge which likely was blown by wind and landed on Xiao’s head. Fortunately, Xiao survived the knife fall and was treated for the wound.
