China Central Television audiences should watch out for this year’s Spring Festival Gala as the event would be featuring a rare anti-corruption satire played by Chinese comedians Miao Fu and Wang Sheng.
During this year's Spring Festival Gala, CCTV has decided to present a special feature in line with the current administration's anti-graft and corruption crackdown in both the government and the private sector.
Rehearsals of the traditional Chinese crosstalk were held on Friday, and would be performed by Miao and Wang, two key comedians from a famous comedy group in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
According to Miao, their script were rewritten numerous times in order to look for the right way of performing a satire on the sensitive issue of graft and corruption in the country.
"I am under huge pressure . . . not being a corrupt official, I was trying to place myself in his shoes and imagine what goes through his mind. So I turned to the Xi'an Party committee," he explained, adding that the Party's disciplinary commission had provided them with information about some graft and corruption cases.
According to the Xi'an Evening News, the crosstalk is the first to be performed at the annual event in decades, with the last one held in the gala of 1988 by Chinese entertainers Niu Qun and Li Lishan.
During that Spring Festival Gala, the two celebrities mocked an official who paid for his meal--comprising a roast duck--using the government's funds.
According to Beihang University Public Management professor Ren Jianming, the rare performance in the gala would help spread "integrity education" on the matter.
"I am looking forward to seeing the show and I hope it provides us with deeper insights," he stated.
