Super Junior's Ryeowook, whose real name is Kim Ryeowook, has put off his enlistment date in the South Korean army. Latest reports claimed that the 28-year-old actor-singer has postponed his plans to fulfil the two-year mandatory military service as an active duty soldier.
Super Junior's Ryeowook originally planned to enlist on June 14, Tuesday and receive a basic military training for five weeks. He will then serve as an active-duty soldier for 21 months at an undisclosed enlistment location in South Korea.
However, SM Entertainment has now announced that Ryeowook will postpone his enlistment date due to overseas schedules with the rest of Super Junior's members in Latin America, Yonhap News Agency reported. Reports indicate that the said event is an engagement that the 13-member boy group promised to its local fans and that Ryeowook insisted on keeping this promise.
"Ryeowook had finished up his solo album and DJ activities and was focusing on Super Junior's overseas fan meetings while preparing to enlist," a press statement released by SM Entertainment reads, as obtained by Soompi. "However, there have been sudden changes to the management of the team. Thus, his enlistment date has been postponed in order to keep his promise with fans in South America."
The press statement further pointed out that Ryeowook will immediately leave for conscription once he finished all his overseas schedules for the on-going special event called "Super Camp." It added that Ryeowook will faithfully fulfill his obligation as an active-duty soldier, as soon as a new enlistment date is confirmed.
Nonetheless, it was reported previously that Ryeowook wishes to enlist quietly and stressed that neither the singer nor his agency will reveal the former's enlistment location and time. It can be recalled that Ryeowook surged to the music scene in 2004's CMB Youth ChinChin Festival. He was the last member to join Super Junior, a few weeks before their official debut on Nov. 6, 2005.
Ryeowook's unquestionable ability in singing, dancing, and music composition has catapulted him to international fame. The singer then embarked on a solo career with the released of his extended play debut album, "The Little Prince," on January 28. The EP featured six tracks in total, the ballad song and a discussion between a man in agony from love and "The Little Prince."
