Sony announced at its E3 press conference on June 13, Monday that its PlayStation VR headset will launch on October 13 for $399. The PSVR device will work with all PS4 consoles and several games that provide a virtual experience. They include the titles Star Wars: Battlefront, Batman: Arkham, and Final Fantasy 15.
The Star Wars game will get PS VR content in the X-Wing VR Mission, while the Final Fantasy game will get a PlayStation VR mode.
Capcom's Resident Evil 7 will also come to PlayStation VR. The game will move from an action-based game to its original horror genre, and is available as a PS VR demo for PlayStation Plus.
Quantic Dream's upcoming title Detroit: Become Human features androids in a futuristic Motor City and will get full PS VR support, according to PC Magazine. The E3 demo showed a hostage situation that could have different results based on the gamer's choices.
Sony's E3 event included many trailers and gameplay demos. That included one for God of War that featured Kratos using an ax and his fists to battle evil creatures. Kratos also serves as a father figure for a Norse child.
Meanwhile, a demo for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare showed gameplay that could help it to compete well against Battlefield 1. For example, it showed a smooth transition between first-person shooting and space vehicle combat.
Next, game developer Insomniac introduced its newest PS4 game Spider-Man that features the Marvel superhero.
Inpulse Gear co-founder Seth Luisi also introduced the company's new space adventure game Earpoint via a blog post. It was created for PlayStation VR. The game is set in an alien world where players battle to survive while exploring the planet.
Impulse Gear worked with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to develop the PS VR Aim Controller. The way the gun-shaped accessory is held and pointed in the real world is directly synced with the game.
In related news, at E3 2016 Microsoft also introduced its Project Scorpio, which is a more powerful version of the original Xbox One console. The gaming system will support 4K games and VR experiences, and include 6 teraflops of power.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer shared that Microsoft's goal is to bring 4K gaming and high-end VR to a console, according to The Verge.
