The Hollywood lost one of its most talented, young actor on June 19, Sunday. Anton Yelchin, the 27-year-old actor who also appeared as an engineer on the famous "Star Trek" lost his life in a fatal accident that involved his own car.
The "Like Crazy" actor was hit by his own Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car rolled down the driveway and pinned the actor between itself, the security fence and the a brick pillar, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fiat Chrysler, the maker of the Jeep that killed Yelchin, is currently looking into any kind of defects that may have resulted in the accident.
But it is still too early to speculate on what really caused the Jeep to roll down the driveway. There could be a possible defect with Yelchin's Jeep, according to the police, but nothing has been confirmed as of now. The Los Angeles authorities are investigating into the tragic death of the American film and television actor.
According to the authorities, there could have been a defect in the Jeep's gear shifters. The defect, which causes the Jeep to roll away unexpectedly, was known to have confused drivers in the past as well. The Los Angeles Police Department representative told the publication that the investigation is still going on and it is too early to say how the Jeep rolled back. The spokesman further revealed that the police is aware of the previous reports of the defect in the vehicle.
In a notice dated April 22, 2016, the company stated that it was aware of the 41 injuries, potentially related to vehicles not properly put into park. The company further said that it is planning to include certain enhancements in the vehicle.
The incident took place outside Yelchin's home in Studio City, California. His motionless body was discovered by his friends, who came to check on him as he did not show up for the rehearsal that day. "Blunt traumatic asphyxia" was later identified as his cause of death and the coroner's office rules out the possibility of any suspicious circumstances involved.
