Sony PlayStation 4 regained the top spot as the best-selling console for January, besting its closest rival, the Xbox One.
Latest numbers shows PlayStation 4 sold 18.5 million units. The Xbox One, on the other hand, recorded sales of 10 million units at the end of 2014. A significant portion of Xbox One sales came during the holiday seasons when Microsoft decided to offer discounts to boost sales, according to Inferse .
"PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console in January and remains the cumulative leader in the U.S. according to NPD data. Since launch in November 2013, 18.5 million PS4 units and 81.8 software units have been sold through to consumers worldwide", said Sony Computer Entertainment America in a statement.
This year, Microsoft decided to focus on making deals with various game developers to create more Xbox One exclusive games. The most notable of these exclusive titles is "Titanfall."
Xbox One is also the only console that offers "EA Access." Microsoft has also bumped up its console's with features that allow players to take on game screenshots, according to Tech Radar .
Sony, on the other hand, is heading towards virtual reality. Sony has updated its PlayStation Now network, PlayStation TV, and beefed-up its Project Morpheus that will soon offer video games with virtual reality functionality.
Sony is also gearing up to release its exclusive video games, like the much anticipated "Uncharted 4" and "The Order 1886."
Both consoles are rumored to be in development and will integrate 4K hardware functionality.
