"Wreck-It-Ralph" returns to the big screen. The sequel is scheduled to be released on March 9, 2018.
In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Director Rich Moore and screenwriter Phil Johnston will reteam for "Wreck-It-Ralph" part two. The team has worked together in the 2012 original and recently in another animated movie "Zootopia".
Moore and Johnston officially announced the good news in a Facebook Live video on the Disney page last June 28. Actor John C. Reilly, who played Ralph in the movie, joined the two in this announcement while wearing Ralph's imitation hands.
Reilly will also be coming back for the sequel alongside Sarah Silverman, who played the character of Vanellope con Schweetz.
In an exclusive interview with entertainment news website Collider, Moore shared a few interesting ideas about the follow-up movie.
According to the "Wreck-It-Ralph" director, the sequel will take place in the current day. He added that unlike other sequel movies, this is something Disney fans should look forward to. Walt Disney Animations does not usually create a follow-up or part two. However, Moore noted two things from the movie that made them do a sequel. One, there is a demand for another "Wreck-It-Ralph" from fans who liked the original film in 2012. Second, Moore alongside with his crew enjoyed making the film and fell in love with the characters.
The production process for "Wreck-It-Ralph" part two is in the works. According to Moore, they have been working on it for almost two and a half years already before "Zootopia", an animated film he also created with Johnston, came. He added that after "Zootopia", they proceeded with a table read for "Wreck-It-Ralph" and so they are very much focused on the storyboarding the film as of the moment.
Regarding the storyline, Moore plans to incorporate the vintage games and arcade aspect, which was shown in the first film, with the contemporary games. He says that they are trying to find the balance in both retro and modern aspects of video games.
"Wreck-It-Ralph" is a computer-animated fantasy-comedy film released in 2012 about an arcade villain Ralph who travels to different arcade games with hopes of becoming a hero. The movie became a blockbuster hit and received various nominations and awards.
