Within a month, the fifth movie of the "Jason Bourne" franchise would hit the box office to entertain fans with the thrilling adventures involving one of their favorite spy.
Interestingly, the movie happens to be an important landmark for actor Matt Damon as it is the fourth movie where he plays the titular role of the CIA assassin Jason Bourne. Everyone would admit that it is a great feat, but it cannot be denied either that some other actor would replace him in near future, according to E! Online.
Even Damon is aware of the ground reality and knows he will have to hang his boots. But he is very positive about the future of the series and believes it is pretty bright. While promoting his upcoming movie in South Korea, the actor acknowledged that he will be definitely replaced by some new young Jason Bourne. He said that it happens to everybody and rebooting things is totally fine.
Well, Damon is alright with rebooting, and it looks like the Bourne franchise would take the Bond route and recast the lead character. If this happens, it would be a little ironical for the Bond movies have been adopting tactics of the Bourne franchise of late, which includes brutal fight scenes and realistic elements.
In addition, Damon is not a big fan of James Bond and revealed this during a recent interview with GQ Magazine. The actor said that he likes Bourne better than Bond. Explaining further, he stated that Bourne has today's values while Bond cherishes the values of the 1960s. Well, Damon could not be more accurate.
Despite being a spy movie in essence and sharing the same initials "J B," the two spies are very different in terms of character. Bond is a misogynist. He kills without remorse and does not have much of a conscience. On the contrary, Bourne is fiercely monogamist and behind his tough exterior, resides a humanist that feels empathy and compassion for people.
And therefore, Bourne fans will always root for him. As for the reboot, no one is really complaining as long as the spy retains his unique characteristics.
