Doug Baldwin, the wide receiver for Seattle Seahawks recently apologized for his unsportsmanlike behavior after catching a pass that resulted for a touchdown during the Super Bowl XLIX.
Aside from apologizing for his actions, Baldwin said that his action was a taunt towards New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis. Baldwin's action resulted in a 15-yard penalty from the game officials and an additional $11,025 fine from the National Football League.
At the 4:54 mark during the fourth quarter, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson throw a touchdown pass to Baldwin which put the Seahawks ahead of the game 24-14. Right after the touchdown, Baldwin celebrated by squatting on the ball and simulates an action that resembles that of sitting on a toilet, according to ESPN.
Despite the jubilant celebration of Seahawks fans, many analysts were quick to point out that Baldwin was only able to catch the pass because Revis unintentionally bumped into the referee, according to CBS.
During the interview Baldwin said that, "I do regret the fact that it cost my team 15 yards, and to the fans, ultimately I apologize to anybody I offended in any way."
Baldwin also shared his frustration about the lack of good opportunities as he try to measure himself against "one of the best guys in the league."
When asked about the controversial last play call during the closing seconds of the game, Baldwin defended offensive coordinator Darrel Bevell by saying that everyone on the Seahawks team took the blame and levying the blame on Bevell alone is "irresponsible."
Baldwin also shared his opinion about the rumored retirement plan of his teammate Marshawn Lynch. Baldwin only commented that Lynch will have to do what's best for him.
