"Bates Motel" Season 5 will be the end of the road for the critically acclaimed series, which is going to feature a slightly different ending from its movie version "Psycho." Fans are dismayed about the news, but they also have reasons to rejoice because the show will wrap up the season featuring the pop star Rihanna as Marion Crane.

The news about Rihanna joining "Bates Motel" Season 5 was announced during the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22, Friday. The "Diamonds" hitmaker was not present at the event, but a special video was shown to reveal her role in the final season. The same video was shared on the show's official Twitter account.

Aside from Rihanna's casting in "Bates Motel," the executive producers also confirmed that they are ending the series after the upcoming season during their panel at Comic-Con. The news broke the heart of fans who have been following the horror television series for five years. The announcement was also posted on the series official Twitter page.

The "Bates Motel" Season 5 ending came as a surprise as Season 4 wrapped up with major cliffhangers. However, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin have been upfront eversince about their plan to only stick with a five-season run.

"From the end of the first season, Carlton and I both had the exact same instinct of five seasons," Ehrin told Variety. "Emotionally, yes, a very specific one. I will say it's beautiful."

"Bates Motel," which is a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror film "Psycho" was renewed for two more seasons in 2015. The film featured Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, who met her tragic death in a shower. It was considered as one of the highlights of the 1960's horror film.

There are speculations whether Rihanna will be able to portray the role in "Bates Motel" Season 5 just like Leigh did in the movie. However, Cuse cleared that the series finale will be a little bit different from the film.

"We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film," Cuse told TVLine. "It would be boring to just recreate Psycho."
