Things are now progressing well for SBS's new drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea" (working title). The upcoming TV series, which stars Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun, has drawn significant interest.
In late May, the drama's production company, Culture Depot, confirmed to Soompi that "My Love From The Star" scriptwriter Park Ji Eun has chosen Lee and Jun to star as the main leads of her forthcoming project. It is said that the two top-tier celebrities have confirmed their roles since receiving information on the synopsis of the drama.
"From the beginning stages, writer Park Ji Eun created characters matching Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho, thinking of them as the best couple," a representative from Culture Depot told the publication. "The lead actors also decided to work on the drama because they believe in the writer and the director. You can look forward to their chemistry, which will be beyond one's imagination."
While details about the drama remain scarce, sources in broadcasting industry revealed to HanCinema that screenwriter Park is concentrating on writing the drama intensively. It is said that the critically acclaimed scriptwriter stopped communicating with individuals aside from just a few close associates.
The source added that after Park came back from her overseas business trip, she only had a couple of official meetings with a high-ranked official of SBS and obstructed all the invitation to attend public events. It can be remembered that Park flew to Beijing, China, to attend the premiere of the romantic-drama film, "BA Partners," which marks the Chinese debut of "My Love From The Star" director, Jang Tae-Yoo.
Based on a story collection "Eou yadam" by Joseon scholar Yu Mong-In, the 20-episode upcoming drama follows the story of a magistrate, Kim Dam Ryung, who released a mermaid into the ocean. It was later caught by a fisherman named Heo Joon Jae.
Aside from Lee and Jun, earlier reports claimed that actor Lee Hee Joon, best known as Kim Chang Nam in jTBC's "Yoo-na's Street" (2014), has been cast to play Jo Nam Doo. Details of his role are being kept under wraps for now.
"The Legend of the Blue Sea" will begin airing sooner or later in November at 10:00 PM (KST). Check out YTN's reporting on the eagerly anticipated pair-up of Lee and Jun below:
