The Grammy-winning artist will star opposite actor Bradley Cooper, 41, who will make his directorial debut with the movie. Reportedly, the film is being hailed as a "re-imaging" of a classic musical.

Lady Gaga lost no time to share her excitement with fans when she announced that she was thrilled to be directed by the star of "American Sniper." She also paid him a tribute saying he was a "visionary artist."

Copper is reportedly teaming up with Will Fetters for the script. Producers Billy Gerber and Jon Peters will work with Cooper on the film alongside Todd Philips , who wrote and directed "The Hangover Trilogy." Production of the film is set to begin in California in the early part of 2017.

A modern take on the popular musical "A Star Is Born" has been in the works for some time. Originally actor and director Clint Eastwood was lined up by to make the film alongside singer and songwriter Beyonce, The Verge reported. Reports claim that Cooper had been Eastwood's pick to star in the role of the declining male film star.

The film eventually failed to get off the ground and Cooper then decided to step into the directorial chair. The "Silver Linings Playbook" star then decided on casting Lady Gaga in the film's supporting role.

For Lady Gaga this latest role is a progression from her fleeting celluloid appearances in the past. She has appeared in smaller character roles in films such as " Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" and "Machete Kills." The "Born This Way" singer took home a Golden Globe this year for her performance in "American Horror Story ."
