The absence of “Descendants of the Sun” actress Song Hye Kyo at the Seoul Drama Award 2016 on Thursday, Sept. 8, may have disappointed fans of the TV series. However, Song Joong-ki’s kind words about his co-star may even spark more speculations about a secret romantic relationship and wedding between the two Hallyu stars.
Yonhap reported that the military-medical drama "Descendants of the Sun" received three prizes in the Korean “Hallyu” drama category. The 16-episode show, which ran from late February until mid-April 2016, won the Best Drama award.
For Best Actor, Song Joong-ki got the award, while the series’ original sound track, “You Are My Everything” gave K-Pop singer Gummy the Best Theme Song award.
One comment on the YouTube post of his speech in Korean said that Song Joong-ki believes the award should go to Song Hye Kyo. Soompi also reported that when the actor walked the red carpet, he again acknowledged the coffee and snack trucks which Song Hye Kyo sent to the set of “Battleship Island.”
However, it is his last line which would further spark speculations not only of the two “Descendants of the Sun” stars admitting something on Song Joong-ki’s birthday on Sept. 19 but even make fans think the next step is a wedding. It’s because, the actor said, “She’s the best partner.”
Other big winners in the 11th Seoul Drama Awards are the British-American TV series “The Night Manager,” the SBS’s “Six Flying Dragons” which won the Best Long Form Drama award, Germany’s “Deutschland 83” for Best Mini Series and “Baskets” from the U.S. for Best Comedy Series.
