Broken Matt Hardy is one of the most entertaining characters in all of wrestling this year and it has even attracted the attention of the WWE. According to the latest rumors, Triple H is interested in bringing back the former WWE superstar and it could happen as spring next year.
Matt made his name in the WWE during the "Attitude Era" along with his brother Jeff as The Hardy Boyz. They won the tag team titles seven times during their careers in the WWE but both eventually left the company in the late 2000s.
The Hardy brothers have been wrestling TNA for the past several years with Matt introducing a new character, Broken Matt, this year. It is an over-the-top gimmick that is borderline cheesy with Matt having a new look and strange accent.
Nevertheless, it has caught the attention of his former employers and apparently, they want him back. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Triple H is very interested in signing Broken Matt once his contract with TNA expires early next year.
It is noted that Triple H, who is the WWE's head of talent relations, cannot directly talk to Matt because of his contract with TNA. However, The Game has reportedly sent out feelers to Matt's representatives if he is interested in returning.
The report mentioned that Matt wants to have creative control of his character but he is adamant about returning due to the schedule of the WWE. The company has been contacting former talents about returning but the schedule usually is the cause of them turning down the deal.
However, TNA's future is up in the air with the rumors of its sale and it could lead Matt to come back since he has a lot of plans for the broken character. On the other hand, his brother Jeff has expressed his desire to return to the WWE and finish his career there.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated in June, Jeff revealed that he wants to end his career at WrestleMania. He added that he wants to face The Undertaker at the event in a Hell in a Cell Match.
"I know I'm getting close to the end. I can feel my body telling me something. I don't know how much longer I've got, and naturally, I would love to end with a WrestleMania and I would love to have a Hell in a Cell. That's something I've always wanted to do, and I've always wanted to headline 'Mania," Hardy said.
It should be noted that these are just rumors at the moment and there is a big chance that Broken Matt does not appear in the WWE. Check out the video below for The Final Deletion Match between the Hardy brothers.
