South Korean actor Park Seo Joon graced the cover of Elle Korea's October issue. In an accompanying interview, the 27-year-old star opened up the challenges he encountered while filming the upcoming KBS 2TV period drama, "Hwarang: The Beginning."
The upcoming period drama recounts the tale of an elite group of young aristocratic warriors, called the Flower Knights, who grows through passion and love in the Kingdom of Silla. Seven young people with seven diverse hues are said to be the main focus of the period drama.
The "She Was Pretty" actor is up to play the young man of low birth, Moo Myung aka Sun Woo Rang, who gradually transforms into a legendary Hwarang warrior. He is described as a daring and powerful warrior.
"The emotions I had while filming was fresh to me, as I never experienced them in contemporary series I had worked on," Park told Elle Korea, as cited by The Kpop Herald. "I wonder how they show on the small screen."
Park then revealed that he does not have any fears about not reaping the success of the pre-produced series. Nonetheless, he admitted that he would be glad if portraying the lead role would end in success.
Filming for "Hwarang: The Beginning" began on March 1 and successfully wrapped up on Sept. 1. The content of the period drama will reportedly be edited for the entirety of October and will eventually be reviewed in China afterwards.
Despite the rising political strain between China and South Korea over the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile, it appears "Hwarang: The Beginning" will simultaneously broadcast in the said neighboring country without any issues.
"We plan on going to China this month to discuss broadcasting," a source from KBS 2TV's "Hwarang: The Beginning" revealed to Soompi. "The drama will air in December as planned. We are looking at Dec. 19 as the tentative date for the premiere."
Helmed by Yoon Sung-Sik, "Hwarang: The Beginning" also stars Go Ara, Park Hyung-Sik, Choi Min-Ho, Do Ji-Han, Jo Yoon-Wo, and Kim Tae Hyung.
