A historical drama that featured several veteran celebrities may be a daunting acting project, especially for the young South Korean star Park Bo Gum. The director of the KBS series "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" recently revealed that the actor was initially intimidated by some of his co-stars, particularly Cheon Ho Jin.
Showrunner Kim Sung Yoon recounted some of Park's challenges in the KBS drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds." In an interview with Yonhap News, the filmmaker shared how the young actor initially had problems portraying his crown prince role in front of Cheon. The veteran Korean star plays the villainous character Prime Minister Heon who will do anything to gain control of the throne.
Park initially felt overwhelmed to act in front of Cheon during the KBS drama's earlier filming sessions, according to Kim. It also took the "Reply 1988" actor two months before he became comfortable with his role.
When the filmmaker saw the improvement in Park's acting, the drama's cast and crew members re-filmed the KBS series' first two episodes. Kim explained that they were able to squeeze in the unplanned filming activities during the height of the Olympics held in August. At that time, KBS deferred the historical drama's premiere date to Aug. 22 to make way for its Olympic game broadcast.
Kim also shared some of his initial apprehensions when he learned about Park's casting in the KBS series. The actor was specifically chosen for the drama' lead role given his rising popularity. The series' primetime TV timeslot and the investment offers were also linked to Park's participation in the drama, according to the director.
However, Kim's initial worries disappeared given Park's amazing performance in the KBS historical series. The showrunner stated that he is completely satisfied with the actor's acting and the myriad of emotions that Park displayed in the drama.
In other news, the reunion scene between Park and Kim Yoo Jung's characters in episode 14 that aired on Oct. 4, Tuesday, posted the highest TV ratings for the series. Viewership share for the said scene rose to 21.7 percent, according to Neilsen Korea, as cited by Osen. Meanwhile, the said episode only registered a nationwide TV rating of 18.7 percent.
