Leonardo DiCaprio, the award-winning actor, and social activist opened a Weibo account and within half a day, a million fans followed him.
In his first post, he said, "Hello, China! I'm Leonardo." The post was retweeted more than 140,000 times.
The post also received 150,000 comments and 530,000 "likes" by Sunday noon.
One of DiCaprio's fans replied, "Welcome to Weibo! We are so excited that Chinese fans can take a step closer to you, and know more things about you and your films. Hope we will have good communication!"
Another Weibo user said, "Hello! We hope you will love these expression packs, which represent our enthusiasm. You know, the more expression packs you have, the more popular you are in China."
The Weibo user was referring to screen grabs of his facial expressions.
Leonardo DiCaprio was born in Hollywood California. He started at the age of 14.
One of his earlier movies was the dramatic autobiography "This Boy's Life." Later on, he rose to fame through movies like "Titanic," "Blood Diamond" and "The Aviator."
DiCaprio's fifth collaboration with Director Martin Scorsese was a movie entitled "The Wolf of Wall Street." DiCaprio starred as Jay Gatsby in "The Great Gatsby."
In "Django Unchained," he received a Golden Globe nomination for his work. He played the title role of "J. Edgar" and received nominations by the Golden Globe, Critics' Choice and Screen Actors Guild.
He starred in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster "Inception" and "Shutter Island," his fourth collaboration with director Martin Scorsese.
He is also an activist and started the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which advocates human rights and environmental protection. The foundation's core focus areas range from wildland conservation to public advocacy.
