Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar is practically imminent following the Paul Heyman segment at WWE Raw. The actor-wrestler announced he would be in the Oct. 17 edition of the Monday Night show which will more or less make the 49-year-old’s return to the wrestling scene official.
Heyman appeared in the Oct 10 edition of WWE Raw to take a swipe at the former WWE/WCW star. He challenged Goldberg to return to the WWE ring and allow his client (Brock Lesnar) to redeem himself from a previous encounter. That encounter was in reference to the Wrestlemania 20 match between the two which Goldberg won, WWE.com reported.
It didn’t take long for Goldberg to get word of the challenge and the former WCW star will personally address the challenge this coming Monday. While many await how Goldberg will react, the prognosis is that this is a done deal.
In fact, some believe that negotiations with Goldberg had carried on quietly and the recent jab of Heyman was nothing more than a formality. But as far as his chances against a vastly improved Lesnar, Goldberg is fully aware of the risks he carries against the “Beast Incarnate”.
It has almost been 12 years since that Wrestlemania 20 clash where a lot has changed. Goldberg turned to Hollywood while Lesnar upped his stock in the industry and made a mark in the mixed martial arts scene.
From that alone, the matchup could turn out to be lopsided though it may be limited to just one match. With due consideration to the rocky relationship between Goldberg and the WWE, that lone match will reportedly take place at WWE Survivor Series, Forbes reported.
This could be surprising since many feel that the best time to hold it would have been Wrestlemania 33. Seeing however that the WWE is aching to jack up its ratings, such is seen as the only logical conclusion why Vince McMahon and company are fast-tracking the dream match.
It will be interesting how things pan out this coming Monday on WWE Raw. Lesnar could be around to witness it up and close but the more pressing question is if McMahon will settle for a one-time deal with Goldberg.
