Gal Gadot finally breaks her silence regarding the controversy surrounding Wonder Woman's sexuality, stating it will not be explored in the upcoming origin film.
Question about Wonder Woman's sexuality has long been the subject of debate among fans. It was once again brought to fore recently after Greg Rucka, longtime writer from the "Wonder Woman" comics, revealed that the female superhero is bisexual. According to Time, Rucka said although Diana Prince has a romantic relationship with Steve Trevor, she's had a string of relationships with other women throughout her 75-year history.
Responding to this, Gadot says Wonder Woman's orientation is not something that's on the table for the movies, but confirms that there's some truth to Rucka's statements.
"It's not something we've explored. It never came to the table," the 31-year-old actress tells Variety. "But when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense."
Based on the comic books, Themyscira is a land inhabited solely by women, making it all the more possible for one woman to develop feelings for another.
She adds that Wonder Woman's affection for other people is not constrained by gender. "She's a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts," Gadot says.
Meanwhile, Gadot finished filming "Wonder Woman" in May and is now in Iceland joining the rest of the "Justice League" cast and crew. Also spotted filming in Iceland are Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. It is reported that Ben Affleck and Willem Defoe will join the group soon.
Director Zack Snyder recently shared a photo of Heard as Mera. This is the first time the character's costume was presented to the public. The costume is receiving praise from comic book fans for following the original design for the Queen of Atlantis.
The scene being shot in Iceland is speculated to be that where Wonder Woman and Batman attempt to make contact with Aquaman as they gather they superhero friends to fight the big bad.
"Wonder Woman" will premiere in theaters on June 2017, followed by "Justice League" on Nov. 17, 2017.
