With "Stranger Things" Season 2 confirmed, new information on the show's development has been revealed, particularly with respect to new and old cast members.
For starters, it has been confirmed that newcomers Dacre Montgomery ("Power Rangers") and Sadie Sink ("American Odyssey") are joining the show as Billy and Max, respectively. Both have been cast as series regulars, with Sink's Max inspiring the title of the first episode of Season 2, titled "MadMax."
The young female character is described as a "tough and confident" girl whose "appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era," TVLine reported.
Billy, on the other hand, is Max's super confident older step brother. "He steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games, and drives a black Camaro. But lurking under his apparent charisma, is a violent and unpredictable nature," EW reported.
Some fans, however, criticized the show for adding more white characters to an ensemble that features very few people of color. Actor Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, defended the casting decision, saying there's still a lot people don't know about Season 2.
Meanwhile, fan favorite Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery, has been promoted to series regular together with Noah Schnapp's Will Byers. Steve, Nancy and Jonathan's love triangle in Season 1 fueled a huge part of the excitement and teenage romance in the first season of "Stranger Things." In the coming second season, things are only going to get complicated for the trio.
At the New York Comic Con, co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour confirmed that the love triangle is still pretty much alive, although it appeared at the end of Season 1 that Nancy has chosen Steve over Jonathan.
"We did get the first couple scripts and it's insane," Harbour revealed. "Even when I was watching [Season 1] I felt torn. They both were so three dimensional... There will be more of that for seasons to come."
Brown, on the other hand, shared her two cents on the matter, stating that while she approves of Steve and Nancy, anything can still happen. Billy's character description also doesn't seem to bode well for Steve and Nancy's relationship. With a reputation for stealing girlfriend, Steve has to be extra careful protecting Nancy.
"Stranger Things" Season 2 is expected to premiere on July 2017 on Netflix.
