Netflix has officially confirmed that Marvel's "The Punisher" series will be making its debut on the streaming service in 2017. In addition to the show's premiere date, it was also announced that five additional actors have been added to the show's cast.
Even though filming for the Jon Bernthal starrer is already underway in New York City, the series was not originally expected to premiere until 2018 due to scheduling conflicts with "The Defenders" and "Iron Fist." "The Punisher's" 2017 release date means this will be the first time Marvel releases more than two shows on Netflix in a single year.
Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson are the latest additions to "The Punisher" cast. They will be sharing screen space with Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, "Daredevil" star Deborah Ann Woll and Bernthal, Deadline reported.
"The Punisher" series received the green signal after Bernthal's character as The Punisher a.k.a. Frank Castle made a huge impression on the second season of "Daredevil." The upcoming spin-off series will follow the events of his encounter with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and company.
Newman will play the role of Sarah Lieberman, wife of Moss-Bachrach's character of Micro, who finds that her life has become more complicated after marriage. Nathan and Revah will portray the characters of Homeland Security agents Sam Stein and Dinah respectively.
Webber is Lewise Walcott, a young veteran struggling with life as a citizen, while Moore will be seen as Cutis Hoyle, Castle's friend and one of the few people aware that he's still breathing. Schulze plays Rawlings, a CIA official who met Castle during the vigilante's service in Afghanistan.
"We couldn't have asked for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel's 'The Punisher,'" show-runner Steve Lightfoot said in a statement. "It's a thrill to watch them each bring their characters to life with such layered, nuanced performances."
