Blackjacks and YG fans can now stop hoping for a 2NE1 comeback as YG Entertainment officially disband its first generation female group.
All Kpop translated the official announcement and it reads,
"Our contract with 2NE1 came to an end in May of 2016, and as we faced a situation where Minzy is no longer with us, we ultimately came to a decision of 2NE1's official disbandment after long discussion.
For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We, too, cannot express how upset and disappointed we are. However, we judge that it'll be difficult to continue promoting. We decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1's unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotions of the members.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who loved 2NE1 and their music.
Meanwhile, in May, YG renewed the contract with CL and Dara. Unfortunately, we officially announce that Park Bom did not have a renewal."
Meanwhile, all former members of the group will be doing solo activities. CL is busy with her US promotions and Dara is also busy with her international commitments and will reportedly focus on acting. Minzy and Bom are reported to become solo artists as well but under other entertainment agencies.
2NE1 debuted in May 2009 with CL, Dara, Park Bom, and Minzy as members. They dominated the charts at every comeback and tagged as one of the queens of Kpop girl group. In 2014, the group faced its biggest struggle with Park Bom's drug scandal. Thus, the group went on hiatus since then.
The four members' last appearance as a group was when they performed at Mnet Asian Music Awards 2015 sparking rumors for an imminent 2NE1 comeback. However, in August, YG announced that Minzy left the group and the label after her contract ended. She signed under Music Works and is currently preparing for a solo comeback.
