"Death Stranding" has received the support of the Decima engine to power it up. Kojima Productions also revealed an alternate version of the teaser trailer.
Sony's Mar Cerny revealed the trip that he and Hideo Kojima did to meet several developers around the world when trying to find the right technology for the video game, Gamespot quoted him saying during the PlayStation Experience. He said that it was unfortunate that Kojima had to leave the technology with his former employee, which garnered boos from the crowd since he was referencing Konami at this point.
Guerilla's Hermen Hulst said that Kojima settled on the Decima engine, which is the same engine to power all of Guerilla's games, including "Horizon: Zero Dawn." He said that their engine has made a quantum leap forward in these past few years to get it ready for their project. Kojima added that he had a good feeling about the development team after meeting them.
It was revealed that the Decima engine could handle an open-world video game, which could mean that "Death Stranding" could be one, but that has not been confirmed by Kojima yet. He revealed that the second trailer was running in real-time on the PlayStation 4 Pro, which made it look sharper.
Kojima revealed more details about the upcoming mystery video game like it will have female characters in it, but he was not prepared to reveal them all yet. He confirmed that the character that Mad Mikkelsen played in the video game was the video game's antagonist. He also revealed that a limited-edition vinyl will be released, which will feature the music from the E3 trailer.
During the PSX 2016 panel for the video game, Kojima Productions showed an alternate version of the second teaser trailer, which can be viewed below. It is visually identical the first version during The Games Awards 2016, but it has a different soundtrack, which is "Easy Way Out" by Low Roar. Due to that change, the trailer felt different from the first and had some pacing to it.
According to the official website of Reddit, a member theorized that it is a movie instead of a video game. Some joked around the idea and it was suggested that Kojima just wanted to make a music video for the band.
