Porsche cars may appear in more games starting in 2017 as their exclusivity deal with Electronic Arts ends. There seems to be no talk of negotiating a new contract between the companies.
EA racing games featured Porsche cars and other racing games were prevented from using them. There were some "Forza" games that managed to feature the racing cars thanks to sub-licenses granted by EA but that was pretty much the extent of the Porsche cars.
Porsche Branded Entertainment Manager Sebastian Hornung told German website SpeedManiacs.com as translated by GTPlanet that Porsche and EA both realized that the situation was not what they wanted anymore. It could mean that they both have no plans of renewing the contract again for the exclusive rights to the cars/
"Forza Horizon 2" had a Porsche expansion in 2015 which surprised many fans considering that EA still had the exclusive rights back then. It could have been the start of Porsche wanting their digital cars to be shown in more games outside the EA realm.
Developer Kunos Simulazioni has also rolled out the Pro version of their simulators across Porsche Experience Centers around the globe, IGN reported. It allows prospective customers to feel and see what they can do with a Porsche car in a safe environment before they can actually test it out in the field.
Other games such as the "Project CARS" sequel have also teased Porsche cars and it could just be the beginning. Other games such as "Gran Turismo" and more "Forza" titles could see more of the Porsche branded cars in their rosters. EA mostly featured the said cars in their "Need for Speed" titles which have received positive feedback in the past.
"GT Sport" is expected to come out in 2017 and it could finally contain the highly-anticipated Porsche cars. EA has not yet commented on the issue.
