EXO's Kai has revealed some shocking details about the time he re-injured his ankle in 2016. In an interview with the media outlet Sports Seoul, the idol opened up about his struggle with depression after the injury that forced him to take a break from promotions.
"Personally, [2016] is a year that still holds many regrets for me. I ended up appearing in a wheelchair in front of fans after severely injuring my ankle." Soompi quoted Kai as saying. "I had to go through physical therapy and couldn't properly dance, something I love to do. In addition, I was extremely stressed that I might injure myself again," he added.
Kai severely injured his ankle during the boy band's "EXO PLANET #3 - The EXO'rDIUM" concert tour back in July 2016, according to the same publication. The idol revealed he fell into a depressive slump after he was forced to take a break for four to five months in order to recover from the injury.
The K-Pop idol noted that he found it extremely difficult to overcome the depression, as he is someone who likes to express his happiness through the medium of dance and onstage performances. Therefore, not being able to do what he enjoys after injuring himself is what drove him into the depressive slump.
Kai said he felt weighed down by the extra caution that he had to take while undergoing treatment for the injury and added he felt reluctant to resume practice because of it. He pointed out that although his health has improved, he has not recovered to his best condition yet.
However, the idol revealed that he has been working hard every day in order to return to the stage and perform for his fans. He said that on days that he does not have schedules, he practices dance for five hours before attending acting class for two to three hours and then undergoes vocal training for three hours and by the time he gets home, it is two hours past midnight.
