"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale will take place in March, and anything can happen in the show. Just recently, Nina Dobrev announced her return as Elena Gilbert in episode 16.
At present, there are several theories on how "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 could end. It is possible that even though Elena will be back, she will not end up with Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).
In an interview with Variety, Somerhalder said that he is one to support the relationships in the hit The CW series. But everything Damon has done, not only to his friends, but also to strangers in Mystic Falls, the actor thinks that his character does not deserve to have a happy ending.
As such, Elena may be back at Mystic Falls, but she could end up with Stefan (Paul Wesley). Elena and Stefan were the first ones to be linked in the show, but when the former got to know Damon, she decided to go with him.
Stefan and Elena ending up together also pave the way for Caroline (Candice Accola-King) to reunite with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in "The Originals." In Season 3, the two characters had a conversation, and it was obvious that they still had strong feelings for each other.
Meanwhile, Steroline shippers need not worry because Stefan and Caroline may still get married. However, with Stefan potentially turning into a human, things can change drastically for the couple. It is possible that Caroline herself will be the one to end her relationship with Stefan.
In other news, there are also some theories suggesting that Bonnie (Kat Graham) will turn into a vampire. The resident witch is the only one who has not been transformed into one throughout the past eight seasons.
But it would certainly be exciting to see her become one with her peers. This also means that she and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) can have a more peaceful relationship and life with each other altogether.
Additionally, Elena's father may also make a cameo in the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
