AMD has not yet officially announced the Radeon RX 490 video card but Bethesda seems to have confirmed its existence. The now-edited PC requirements for the "Fallout 4" official high resolution texture pack included the upcoming video card.
With no official reveal yet, the AMD RX 490 sure loves to pop up in official channels and then disappearing when people notice. The company's own support website also listed the RX 490 but it was quickly taken down with no explanation as to why it was there in the first place.
Now, the highly-anticipated video card appeared again in an official website. Bethesda announced the official PC hardware requirements for their "Fallout 4" high resolution texture pack which included the RX 490 8GB but was quickly edited to omit the video card, PC Authority has learned.
Bethesda's requirements also include additional 58GB of hard drive space for the texture packs which may mean that it is really heavy. "Fallout 4" mods that include HD textures often reach up to 5GB in size. The company also requires a 64-bit operating system for the texture packs to be used while the minimum version for Microsoft's OS is Windows 7.
NVIDIA's GTX 1080 is the main required video card besides the AMD RX 490 which means that the GTX 980 Ti 6GB will not be able to cut it, DSO Gaming reported. Both of the cards are close in performance but the 1080 wins in power efficiency, heat dissipation and RAM.
Bethesda's "Fallout 4" high resolution texture pack's file size does make sense as to why the recommended video cards need to have 8GB of VRAM. The files will be stored into the GPU's memory for faster rendering.
AMD's RX 490 video card is expected to be officially revealed soon as the Vega GPUs have already been unveiled. The "Fallout 4" high resolution texture pack will be released next week.
