Fans of the Dark Knight are pretty much saddened by now as Ben Affleck announced that he will no longer be the director of the next "Batman" film. News also came about that the film's script had to be tweaked and Affleck is said to have hired an acclaimed screenwriter to do the job.
In a statement obtained by Forbes, Affleck said that portraying the role of Gotham's caped crusader is a very demanding part to portray. The actor further explained that playing as Batman asks for his full concentration about the part and the will to deliver the very best that he can give.
Hence, the actor resorted to looking for someone who could fill in the directorial duties that he left behind. He then pointed out, though that he is still very much into the project and added that he will still play the titular role.
Another blockade that has bogged down the film's production was its script that was initially written by the actor himself. The initial draft was co-written by Geoff Johns, though it was later on reworded by another scribe - Chris Terrio, according to Deadline.
Terrio had teamed up with Affleck in 2012's award-winning film "Argo" not to mention that the writer also took part in making the script for "Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice" and in the upcoming "Justice League" film. As of late, the writer is said to have been quite a handful to come up with a better script.
Meanwhile, one of the plausible reasons why Affleck veered away from directing the "Batman" standalone featurette was his recent gangster film, "Live By Night." The film underperformed during its theatrical run that it only raked in an accumulated amount of $19 million against its $65 million budget.
