Before Hollywood actor Matt Damon joined the cast of “The Great Wall,” like many westerners, he had not heard of former EXO member Lu Han, the “Chinese Justin Bieber.”
However, on the first night off shooting for the movie, he was amazed to see the whole hotel hallways with 400 flower arrangements sent by the fans of the 27-year-old Chinese celebrity, Times of India reported. The flowers are indicators of how big is the cult of Lu Han who was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records in 2015.
Guinness Book of Records
Lu Han set the record for the most highly commented post on Sina Weibo after a post he made garnered more than 100 million comments. On Feb. 10, the eve of the Chinese lantern festival, another post he made got 1.18 million likes and was reposted 1.84 million times, according to Global Times.
The actor who played the role of warrior Peng Yong in “The Great Wall” has his millions of fans for the records he establishes, whether in social media or in the music and movie industries. In 2015, his album “Reloaded I” sold more than 3 million copies and set a record on Tencent Music and digital music platforms in China.
China’s Biggest Fan Club
Lu Han’s millions of fans who belong the Lu Han Bar, a fan club on Baidu Tiebam, a Chinese forum platform, are his “cult members” who create these record-setting numbers. The bar has 3.25 million registered members which includes 33 offline branch clubs in China and other parts of the world, run by 300 managers.
Their task, which is voluntary, is to share news about Lu Han on the Bar which GQ China describes as something like followers performing their daily morning prayer. Tian Tian, one of the managers of the Bar, screens post, while the other managers update the actor’s schedule, music, videos and photos with the latest happenings. Everyone do those things purely out of love for Lu Han, Tian Tian said.
