Photographers will love the new J5 and other models from its Nikon 1 camera line with its retro look yet advanced specs under the hood.
The new Nikon J5 has the traditional PASM dial to make selecting exposure modes easier for the user, unlike in other models from the J-series 1 cameras.
Nikon also put a secondary command dial for other adjustments. Previous models required browsing through a range of menus.
Additionally, Nikon made the J5's screen tiltable-a first for the camera line, according to The Verge. It can be rotated up to 180 degrees, allowing the user to easily take selfies.
The Nikon J5's grip is also better, compared with the previous boxy models. Its color scheme also goes for the retro look with black and silver.
For the spec lovers, Nikon upgraded its 1-inch sensor to 20.8 megapixels from the 18.4MP of the J4. With a 2.7x crop factor, the J5 also has an autofocus system with 105 phase-detect and 171 contrast-detect points.
Nikon also boasts its new Expeed 5A processor which allows the J5 for still shooting at 20 fps paired with continuous focus, while the 60 fps mode can only accommodate single focus.
Another first for the Tokyo-based camera maker is the J5's capability to shoot 4K movies, according to Tech Radar. However, it can only do so at 15 fps, while it can also shoot 1080p FHD movies at 60 fps and an in-camera time-lapse feature.
The ISO level is still on par with the standard compact cameras at 160 up to 12,800.
The J5, which will be available on April 30, is expected to compete with not only standard compact cameras, but with high-end ones as well such as the Fuji X30.
