"Style" singer Taylor Swift, 25, took to Tumblr to announce some bad news to her fans and advised them to have cancer screening but a publication criticized her for this.
"I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer," Swift wrote in an open letter addressed to her fans. "I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know."
In the letter, Swift told her fans that her mother Andrea wanted them to know about her cancer diagnosis because their parents may be "too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor."
Thus, Swift told her fans that reminding their parents to "go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis" and make the battle with cancer easier.
However, not everyone totally agrees with Swift's advice. According to Vox, mass screening can lead to overdiagnosis, especially in melanoma and breast and kidney cancers. The publication pointed out that not all cancer is deadly and finding it early may be more dangerous than helpful.
Meanwhile, footballer Sean St. Ledger has denied being in a relationship with Swift after dating rumors sparked following his words suggesting that the "Blank Space" hit maker may watch him play football, according to Mirror.
Dating rumors involving Swift, St. Ledger and her rumored boyfriend Calvin Harris appear to affecting her "1989" songs' ranking in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
While "Shake It Off" and "Blank Space" topped the chart, "Style" only peaked at number six and is currently at number seven.
