Whatsapp has become popular after it rolled out the voice calling features on Android and the latest update to the app now adds the popular material design, inspired by Google's Lollipop OS.
By launching voice calling, the text messaging app reached a level where they could directly compete with Skype and Viber. Users reported that the quality of calls are good so far and the developers also confirmed that the feature is rolling out to iOS and Windows Phone platforms in the near future.
Android was the first to receive the updates and Whatsapp on the operating system now features a floating material design. The action button was segregated and floats at the top while the notification bar and the contacts below are separated by a thin line.
The spacing between the text and content was also increased so that users could easily read messages, according to a report by PC World.
Most users received push notifications to update the app to the latest version and when they do so, it will make the application similar to Android's proprietary material design for those who upgraded to the Lollipop OS.
The Next Web confirmed that the user interface and the menu on Whatsapp looks clean. A similar modification was also made to the media selection page.
A whole new set of animations were introduced which makes the app visually catchy and the enhanced design should make it look better on phones with higher resolution. Some users reported that the animations are not the same on every device but the report confirms that the developers might still be working on the update and it should be fixed within a couple of days.
