Ice cream giant "Blue Bell" is expanding its campaign to recall all the products in the wake of the recent contamination by a lethal bacteria. Despite the recall, "Blue Bell's" Sylacauga plant is still operating.
The Texas based ice cream firm said that all of its ice creams and frozen yoghurt might have been potentially contaminated and they do not want to take any risks.
Bacteria Listeria has contaminated these products and is known to cause serious fatal infections, according to BBC. The company started to make these recalls last month when three deaths were reported in Kansas, after those people had consumed "Blue Bell" ice cream.
Two more deaths were reported after this and all the people who had died had consumed the company's products, according to CS Monitor. Listeria is a food borne bacteria which causes symptoms like fever and nausea, and weakens the immune system.
The starting point to this is said to be a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. One of the batches of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream was contaminated with the said bacteria.
"Blue Bell" is conducting strict tests on its unreleased batch and it shockingly revealed that the culprit was not only a single batch, but several batches in all of its factories. They are still clueless on how such a lethal bacterial infection plagues their factories.
The company issued a test and hold procedure in which the products will first be tested for any infections and will be held within the company till all results come in.
"Blue Bell" is known for its tasty and hygienic products and this is the first time in the company's history that it has been forced to make such a big recall of its products.
